Tree

Don’t walk too fast through the wood.

Look for the tree with attitude

twisted branches, textured trunk, fertile fungi

or a deep carpet of burnished leaves.

Press your hand firmly to the bark.

Stand still.

Connect with your chosen tree.

Plant your feet over its roots.

They will hold you.

Listen to wind whispers high above.

Sense the timeless essence of tree.

Now put your ear to its furrowed folds.

You can embrace its singing.
